Here is a ONE OF NONE 1970 Plymouth Superbird CONVERTIBLE! This car runs and drives, starts and stops perfectly. Car was purchased out in Santa Cruz, California back in 2003.
In fact, I dont think I have put 2000 miles on the car since we completed it in the year 2010. So, I am ready to turn my baby over to the next owner and sincerely hope you are able to enjoy it and give it a VERY good home.
*The car is a great driver! It has a 440 with a 727 automatic transmission and an 8 3/4" sure grip/posi rear end. (I believe 3:23 gears) I had the engine and trans gone through during the restoration. This car was NOT built to be a drag racing car. It was built to be a super enjoyable highway cruiser and it does that very well. I have a HUGE file of receipts for new parts which is included. Basically everything on the car is new or rebuilt or polished up. It starts easily and runs smoothly. The transmission shifts properly and the rear end works smoothly. It has a brand new radiator, new disc brake front end, drum rear brakes, all new brake and fuel lines, new gas tank, new gas tank straps, new fuel sending unit, and so much more! It has 15" Mopar Rallye wheels with new BF Goodrich tires. It had a 4 wheel alignment and goes down the road nice and straight. I had the suspension rebuilt with the poly bushing kit. (it could maybe use a new steering arm as it has a little play in the wheel. Probably nothing you would even pay attention to but I like to be honest) It has a brand new Edelbrock 600 CFM electric choke carb.
INTERIOR This car started life with a black bench seat interior. Most everything is new inside. The seats are totally 1970 correct. I bought the best covers and foam that were available. They look and feel awesome! It has the correct 1970 steering column, floor brackets (from a 70 Charger) a beautiful console, (it has 2 small cracks on rear of it) all brand new seat belts, new carpet, a super nice dash pad, new "well" where the convertible top goes into and much more. The convertible top is NEW and is the 100% correct top for the 1970 with the correct grain. It has a nice new glass rear window. The door panels are NEW, arm rests are new, rear panels were sprayed to match the rest of the interior.
The dash trim etc is all correct for the car. We added the correct 3-speed wiper motor. (it works fine but sometimes need a little help to park properly) even has an original CRUISE CONTROL unit for the car. (it is hooked up but makes the car accelerate when you activate it so I havent been using it) The factory tach dash is cool with the 150 MPH Speedo. The speedo works and all the gauges work. The TACH works but the clock does not. The gas gauge works and the car stays relatively cool on summer days when driving it. The car has 100% NEW correct Rallye Dash Convertible wiring from front to rear from Year One. Also has a super nice original CORRECT 1970 3 spoke woodgrain steering wheel. It has the CORRECT Road Runner emblem in the middle with the correct steering wheel center and OF COURSE it has a new working "Voice of the Roadrunner" horn!
DRIVING This one goes down the road very nicely! The headlights, turn signals, brake lights, running lights, interior lights, console lights, dash lights, all function properly. The heater and defroster work just fine. (it has a shut off valve in line) It stays cool when you drive it. All the windows go up and down properly. The power convertible top goes up and down properly. This car is NOT a road rocket. The 440 is a totally stock 440.
BODY It started life as a Satellite Convertible. The car was NICE to begin with. Anything that was a little sketchy was replaced. We ended up installing new quarter panels, correct 1970 floor brackets for the console, new drivers floor pan, (had some pinholes) new trunk floor, (wasnt too bad either) correct 1970 Coronet/Superbird fenders from Arizona and more. The WING is from a REAL Superbird. It has the correct wing mounting brackets in place and they are mounted 100% properly. (see pics) The nose, headlight buckets, z-brackets, wing brackets, wing washers, fender scoops, etc are all made by Wing Car enthusiast Ted Janak of Texas USA! They are fiberglass. There was over 800 hours invested in the body alone and I have tons of pics to document the whole process. We had the car tore down to almost nothing. There is 50+ hours just in the hood! (they did not make a reproduction at the time) The guys did a "Por 15" process inside and outside of the hood, doors, and fully underneath the car. It has the correct reflective Superbird decals on the car. (not the cheap repops) That was a serious process to install those properly. The underside is Not detailed. It has clean frame rails and was designed for function. Not for show. It is painted black underneath. The rubber gasket seals etc are all new as well.
IMPORTANT STUFF The car has a clean and clear title that matches the dash tag, and matches the fender tag. The original dash tag that the car was born with is included too but not on the car. (unpainted)
Wing cars are iconic! (factory made or clones) People who own them do not ever want to sell them. DONT MISS THIS RARE OPPORTUNITY!
Some notes on the car. Sold as is simply because it is used. It does have a couple chips here and there just from being driven. The headlights go up and down with a switch on the dash. The drivers side assembly bounces up and down when you drive the car but it works. You have to have the car running and get the RPMs up a little for the lights to go up. They go back down into place easily. The chrome is not great and should be restored. Some of the other chrome on the car (like tail panel etc) would look nicer restored too. The glass is original in the car and may have some scratches etc. THIS CONVERTIBLE IS PRICED TO SELL!!!
