An all new Grand Prix as a fourth generation on a whole new platform. The Grand prix was moved from the Catalina's 121 inch wheelbase to a new "A-special" platform with an exclusive 118 inch wheelbase which was later named the G-body. The new redesign was a combination of modern elegance, and distinct sleek Pontiac styling. The 1969 Grand Prix boasted the longest hood, a semi-fastback roofline, a V- Shaped grille, vent-less side windows, square headlamps and a new airplane inspired interior, and a hidden antenna. An "SJ" option was also available. Also the 1969 Grand Prix featured a upper-level flow through ventilation system, carpeted lower interior door panels, and interval pulse windshield wipers. The public seemed to love the redesign and sales rose dramatically from the previous year, with it's better handling and new innovative curved cockpit dash design that was dubbed the "Command Seat."
